World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.

Components
Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets to give a stat bonus or extra impact while they're being used. Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be applied. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item. Once enough points are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When an individual player upgrades a piece of equipment the original item will be replaced with an item that is new. The same armor will be upgraded to a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own set bonus. This can be a disadvantage because it can cause the item to become more expensive if you do not need it.
If the player has enough tokens they can roll item upgrades. This will cause the item to be traded for a new one, which will have the level 1 base, and a totally different set of extra bonuses. This can be beneficial however it should not be repeated often since it could waste resources.
